The Brown family at Ashfold Lodge, HandcrossJames W. Brown and his wife, Elizabeth, brought up their five sons on the Ashfold estate, firstly at South Lodge, before moving a short distance up the road to North Lodge, where the photograph was taken.
Back row: Frank, Leslie (Dick), Arthur.
Middle row: James W., James P., Elizabeth,
Front row: Peter, and Joe the dog.
The first son, Arthur Brown, went on to marry Hepsy Doggett in 1937 and both achieved sporting success locally. Arthur passed away in 2003 aged 90 and a local newspaper produced a fitting tribute to his life in an obituary which can be viewed by selecting Large Version.
