My Ladies' Bowl at Slaugham Furnace Pond (1 of 4)

Above is a photograph of “My Ladies’s Bowl” located below the embankment of the dam of Slaugham Furnace Pond.
Over the years various people and bodies, such as the Slaugham Society, have taken it upon themselves to expose the piscina from under the fallen leaves, and in the instance above to empty the bowl of water. I remember that many years ago there used to be a plastic margarine tub left handy on the site to ladle out the water!

The water bowl was featured in the August 1927 edition of the Sussex County Magazine and this can be viewed by selecting Open Document. This magazine was used as evidence when it came to persuading the West Sussex County Council to refrain from their plans to add a concrete cap over the bowl! (See picture #2323)
