Church Lads Brigade - Audited Accounts (3 of 3)

Audited accounts for the Slaugham Company of the Church Lads Brigade were presented for the year ended 31st December 1914.
The whole accounts can be viewed by selecting Open Document.
At the end of the financial accounts, there are two further reports which are worth reading.
The Prime Minister, Herbert Asquith, had set a deadline of midnight on 3rd August 1914 for Germany to withdraw from its occupation of Belgium. This did not happen and Great Britain declared war on Germany on 4th August 1914.
It is interesting to note that within days of the declaration of war that the Slaugham Company of the CLB was called upon to assist the Territorials in guarding the north entrance of Balcombe railway tunnel. I assume no action took place.
