The Street, Warninglid

This is a view of The Street looking north. From the right, partly obscured by the tree is Forge Cottage, then Old Place and Blackmans Cottage, and Pippin Cottage in the middle distance. On the extreme right is part of the 5ft tyring ring used for fitting the metal tyre ring around a wooden cartwheel. See picture #282.

Interestingly, the beams in Old Place were from a very old galleon ship.
As for the front door, the original wasn't as grand as the present one, being made of simple basic panels.
In the front room, under the floorboards was a well. It was sealed off, I believe, in the 1930s.
If I ever pass by Old Place, I remember my uncles with fond memories, but woe betide any man, dog, or stranger who walked on the outside grass; council-owned or not!
