As indicated in picture #293, the names of those who gave their lives in the Great War are remembered on a tablet in St Mark’s church. Beneath St George in full armour and a slain dragon is inscribed, “To the glory of God and in proud and grateful memory of those from this Parish, who fell in the Great War 1914-18”. Their names are F. Bates, A. Comber, P. Covey, P. J. Cox, G. Edwards, T. James, J. Joyce, W. Knight, F. Mitchell, W. H. Mitchell, W. Monk, R. Newnham, A. Nye, F. Pierce, W. G. Sayers, A. E. Simmonds, A. E. V. Stoner.
