On closer inspection I can see a ghostly figure of someone running on the road outside the Red Lion. Obviously it was necessary for the photographer to use a timed exposure even on a sunny day.

The light building to the left of the Red Lion was the other butchers shop in the village when I lived in Handcross in 1947 but there does not seem to be any reference.
It was run by the Snelling family then.
