Staplefield Common

At the crossroads on Staplefield Common both the milepost and the more modern finger post inform travellers that it is 35 miles to London, and 17 to Brighton. On the left is Dorcas Cottage, later to be demolished to make way for the building of Stone Court, with Gable Cottages on the right. One additional change that has taken place to the crossroads in recent times would truly amaze the villagers of one hundred years ago, and that is that the main road here has been painted red!
