Jolly Tanners, Staplefield

United Ales & Stout are being dispensed at the Jolly Tanners, and it’s obviously very popular with cyclists. It seems as if the pub sign was removed at the same time as the pollarded trees and railings were removed to provide parking space. The chimney cowl on the left seems a good idea to prevent a smoking chimney, but I am not so confident about the contraption on the chimney pot on the right. The building has changed little over the last century; perhaps the main difference is that the four doors on the front of the building have been reduced to just two.
