George Cook of Tilgate

George Cook (1889-1997), my grandfather, lived with his wife, Alice Cook (née Lee) in the house just visible on the extreme right. These gardens are now a public park and the greenhouses are still there, within the walled garden. We used to have fun searching for the many families of kittens found under the grates, and other hiding places.

We lived in Pease Pottage.
My Dad was Steve Messer and I remember being taken once to visit George at Tilgate. I didn't think there was any of the family left in the area!
