Robinson Bros shop in the High Street, Handcross

Standing outside Robinson Bros shop at Dudley House in the High Street are, from the left, Fred Gandy, Bill Robinson, Bert Robinson, and Charlie Curnow. The two halves of the shop had a clear division between ironmongery, tools, and even tennis rackets on the left, and jewelry, watches, and clocks on the right. Mr Gandy provided assistance in the saddlery department.
At that time, an upstairs room was regularly used for practice by the village brass band, and the brothers also ran a very successful Minstrel Group which was much enjoyed. During WWII the brothers ran an engineering business connected to the war effort in a commercial building located opposite their shop. This property was later demolished to provide access to Windmill Platt.
