Staplefield Grange

In Tanyard Lane stands Staplefield Grange, although, according to a map of 1874, it was originally named Staplefield House. Here it displays a wide variety of architectural features with a mix of tiled and stone roofs, unusual miniature canopies on the chimney breast arising from a flat roof, tiles hung on the exterior walls on the upper floor, and possibly other gems covered by a rampant climbing plant!
Outside the front door stands a mounting block to allow easier access to the saddle, but, with plants growing over it, I doubt it has been in use recently!

My grandmother, Beatrice Stebbing, lived in Staplefield Grange from 1926 until 1939.
I would very much like to know if it still exists, and whether the gardens are as extensive as when she lived there.

My band played in the grounds in 1964 at a debutantes' party which included many society folk and also before they were famous, The Kinks group too.
The party went on all night and excellent food was provided.

It is now owned by Crispin and Claire Salimbeni. It had been split into 3 parts which were separately owned.
Whilst still split, it is once again owned by just one family who live in the main part and rent out the other two parts of the house.
