Looking north along the A23 the 14 telegraph poles stretching away in the distance greatly exceed the number of vehicles!
Close inspection of the iron fence on the left shows a gate providing access to the impressive avenue of trees as shown in picture #505.
“You’re never alone with a Strand” according to the 1959 TV advert, but in fact the lone man is lighting his pipe. Click on Large Version for a close-up.
