Excursion for Slaugham couples

Three Slaugham couples are dressed up for a trip but there are no clues to indicate what they are up to. On the right are my uncle and aunt, Inez and Tom Wilson, from 1, Bosworths Cottages. Jim and May Longhurst from 3, Carpenters Arms Cottages are wearing the large hat and the coat with big buttons. The other couple is Archie and Aggie Smith.

These were the days when everybody shined their shoes.
With a good weekly wage of £6 (£180), a pair of "Tuf" work shoes lasted only six months and cost £2.5s (£70).
No wonder we boot-polished our shoes every day!
