The Red Lion, Handcross

The Red Lion in Handcross looks very inviting in this hand-coloured card. Three smartly dressed cyclists are in the doorway of the inn; no doubt they are just passing through the village.
The message on the reverse includes “You would like to be here, it is a pretty place.” Obviously horse droppings were an everyday hazard at that time and did not detract from the observations on the postcard.

I imagine pigeon egg omelette was popular for being served at breakfast because of the large number of nesting boxes shown on the side of the livery stable!
