Approaching the Hyde house along the drive one comes upon Darkalley Pond, with Upper Pond above the sluice gate. Interestingly, the 1842 Tithe map does not show any ponds; only a brook flowing through a steep-sided valley. However, a map of 1874 clearly shows the ponds and one must conclude that a dam was constructed at sometime between these two dates.
