A dating problem at the Red Lion, Handcross

Another year, another change of ownership. Once again there is a change afoot at the Red Lion, Handcross. With the re-opening just over a week away I received an email to say that the signwriters have been at work on the front wall and I was asked what did I think of the date. According to the signage the Red Lion was established in 1819, a mere 300 years or so later than it should have been!
I telephoned the manager who was somewhat bemused by the suggestion that the date was seriously wrong and suggested that if I had issues with this matter I should put it in writing. Click on Open Document to view the letter.
The result can be seen in picture #565.
