Viewing this collection of pictures of the Balcombe Lane from Dencombe to the Handcross village, I had not realised how much the vista has changed during the last few decades. We took for granted that the majestic beech trees in that particular setting next to the unfenced road would be like that forever. The present-day drive along the lane is pleasant enough, but nowhere near as special as in years gone by.
Under a tree a man is seated and he can be viewed by clicking on Large Version. He was meant to stand beside the trees in a dignified and graceful pose, but decided to take a call on his mobile phone instead.
