Laurel Cottage, Handcross

As a child in the 1920s, Mrs Edie Boxall used to live at Laurel Cottage with three older brothers and a younger brother and sister. She used to recall that a laundry business used to be carried on there for which she was always grateful as it provided warm and cosy rooms.
From his kennel in the front garden a guard dog in the shape of a Jack Russell Terrier is keeping a beady eye on suspicious passers-by.

Comments:
This is my house now and we too have a Jack Russell terrier who also keeps a beady eye on ANY passers-by. What a coincidence!
Also the house is always full of laundry as its always waiting to be ironed!
Any other information on this house, or Rose Cottage next door (my Dad's) would be greatly appreciated.

My Mum (Molly Boniface, now 91, widow of Ted, Edie's younger brother) says it was previously called Laundry Cottage when she moved in after their marriage in 1948, but she suggested changing it to Laurel Cottage because of the Laurel bushes in the front garden.
I have a very healthy Hydrangea bush in my garden now, grown from a cutting of the one we had in our garden in Covert Mead, which itself was taken from the plant at Laurel Cottage!

That's really interesting thank you.
I'm glad the name was changed as I would never have lived up to the name of Laundry Cottage as not much ironing gets done in this cottage!
Laurel Cottage is apt although the laurels are currently taking over the cottage.
