Tilgate Forest Lodge, Pease Pottage

Tilgate Forest Lodge used to be part of the substantial Tilgate estate before being divided up, with a large part being taken over by the new town of Crawley. Confusingly, the term “lodge” implies a modest house on a junction where the drive from the main house meets the public highway. As can be seen from the picture this lodge is anything but small and modest. Perhaps one should look upon it as more of a hunting lodge of old.
