St George's Day Parade

The 1st Slaugham Scouts and Cubs are marching from Handcross to St. Mary’s church at Slaugham for the St. George’s Day parade. They have marched from the Scout hut in the Brighton Road, Handcross, just visible on the extreme right at the top of the escarpment, across the unopened A23 bypass, and have reached the slip road before heading down the Slaugham Park drive.
In front of the cubs is Gerald Cosens who was the Akela prior to his call up to the Army.
Assistant Scoutmaster, Sid Sargent, is on the extreme right.
When Gerald left the pack the cubs showed their appreciation with a signed message and this can be viewed by clicking on Large Version. Many of those cubs who added their name would have been on parade in the photograph above.
