Handcross British Legion dinner

The Handcross and District British Legion hold their annual dinner in the Parish Hall, with the customary mild beer, served from large jugs, included in the price.
From the left: 1. Wally Rye 3. George Wickham 4. Bob Dench 5. Eric Stockton
The lady waitress is perhaps Mrs Ellen Pennifold from Staplefield.
The Large Version shows another view of the event with George Prevett from Staplefield third left, Ray Funnell second right, and his father Bill Funnell, extreme right. Eighth from the left with a sharp nose and moustache looking directly at the camera is Joe Sayers.
Please can anyone add more names, or, indeed, make any corrections to the above?

Hello Dad! What a surprise to see 'Bill' Shopland here, seventh from the left. He was not prone to socialising but was liked by all who knew him.
A farm labourer, he was 16 when the Great War was declared and his father had just died, leaving him to become "head of household" as he had four younger brothers and a sister that excused him from being called to service. His mother was obliged to marry the lodger, Fred Pusey the farm cowman, to retain the tied cottage tenancy. This resulted in three step-brothers.
Dad's attendance at the Legion dinner would have arisen from being a member of the Pease Pottage WWII Home Guard. Their claim to fame was the night-time relief duties of the day-time soldiers at the northern end of the Balcombe tunnel.
