Vanguard accident - Debris from the gearbox

As the runaway Vanguard bus careered out of control down Handcross Hill the driver tried applying the footbrake, then the handbrake, and then, in desperation, he plunged it into reverse gear. Unsurprisingly, there was a loud bang and bits of the gearbox showered onto the road.
Some of the gearbox was collected together and a photographer thought it worthwhile taking a picture of the debris surrounded by shocked and inquisitive members of the public.
The Large Version shows a view of some of the onlookers with Handcross Hill ascending beyond.
