Sir Edmund Loder's wedding

On 21st November 1876 Sir Edmund Loder (1849-1920) married Miss Marion Hubbard whose family owned Leonardslee gardens. In 1889 the plant-mad baronet purchased the gardens from his wife’s family. The High Street in Handcross was decorated extensively for the wedding including two archways and two columns decorated with foliage and flags above. This picture shows an arch outside Chodds farmhouse with a column outside the pine loft. The arch is topped with the message “May God’s Blessing Ever Attend Thee”
