Vanguard accident - Oak tree hit

This photograph of the oak tree involved in the Vanguard bus accident was obviously taken some time later. The earth verge has been raised by many inches as, I assume, a safety measure and the large scar to the bark is now mostly hidden behind the new earth bank.
To commemorate the accident a plaque or placard was displayed by the tree but various road improvement schemes over the following years soon destroyed the memorial.
